...even if it's just photos auto-posted from my Instagram account.
I just found I've been too tired or busy to be bothered signing on to this account to post blogs or photos in the past few years. I think it all started with owning a smartphone. I spend almost all day in front of a computer for my job and don't really look forward to doing the same during my off hours anymore.
Smart phones have made it easier to access information on the Internet, but it's not as easy typing longer entries or blogging with a smartphone and its smaller screen. I don't even bother checking my work emails on my smartphone (unless absolutely necessary) as I still find it clunkier than checking them on a proper monitor.
Anyhoo, I've been researching and experimenting in the past year or past few months and finally found the most convenient solution to continuing to post entries to this blog. Since I take most photos now with my smartphone, it's just easier to post them on the instagram app (when I'm bored or when I have time on my hands.. Lol!) with little text-typing as opposed to full blast blogging. And I found an app that would then auto-post the photos I posted on my Instagram account on to this blog. It may be redundant but I still like seeing this blog being active and it's convenient for if I decide to add more content to the photo blog entry later on.
I'm just glad all that's sorted now. Happy to see my photography getting posted to this blog again! Hehe!
With the sun on my face, the world at my feet, sometimes the journey is more interesting than the destination. Posts about culture, the arts, photography, technology, the outdoors, travel, music and movies, etc.

Peek a boo!
One afternoon in the spring of 2014, somewhere in a little nook in my abode.. potted daffodils on top of the cabinet.
I chose the pastel robin's egg blue paint on the wall... similar to Tifanny jewelry packaging. Calming...
Yeah that's a fireplace in brick, covered by/behind the white cabinet...
Blue thing on the leftmost is the back of a director's chair.
And I love my Tiffany floor lamp. hehe!

Busy 2013
Been a while since I last posted anything on this blog. Hmmm, lotsa things happened in 2013 I suppose.
Got busy 'cause of a new job
and moving so as to be closer to new job.
Flew to another city for a temporary work assignment,
Then had guests staying at my new place and we went to an island, did some hiking
and hung out at some beaches.
but we also dropped by my uncle's place in the country after coming back from the island.
And finally got a new pet as well after moving. Whew.
Now things are more settled. I have finally done a proper scoping out of my new neighborhood (walked about 5km for an hour). This is so I'd know the best running route so I can continue my running routine. Apparently there's an urban trail behind my neighborhood stretching all the way to the other end of the country, wow.
I look forward to running again, after the dark wet winter last December. Perhaps will join a big 10k run some time this year, organized for the city. My office fields its own team annually with this running event. We shall see.

I passed by views of mountains and waters by the mountains, a recreation centre, as well as a few little parks including an off leash park for dogs on the way, and homes in my neighborhood on the way back. Not bad.

Reality Bites
And I don't mean the movie. It's like that Marvin Gaye song "What's Going On?"
When we were younger:
- we didn't know about BPA, and people I know, including me, grew up ok
- we didn't know about non-pure whatever it's called milk and we turned out ok
- we didn't know about gluten-free stuff and we still turned out ok
*shrugs*
And also, when we were younger:
- we didn't have rains that would devastatingly flood a whole area in one day that never got flooded in such short amount of time as it does in these past few years
- (post-Holocaust) we haven't heard of normal governments gassing their own citizens (children, men and women alike) like it's par for the course and another country behaving as if it never happened.
Sometimes it feels kinda strange living in a place so far removed from the tons of misery going on elsewhere (genocide, child slavery, unending cycle of poverty, etc). It just all the more makes it all a bit more starkly real even if it's not in your face. Makes one think that hell then begins to seem like not an idea but is actually already here all along, you don't need religion to know it exists.
In the meantime the financial markets await the changes ahead with the US Federal Reserve, Ben Affleck is going to be the next Batman (huh?), you have people named Kardashian and Cyrus not really contributing anything of substance never mind artistic value despite however much they earn/are paid, and Samsung and Apple continue to fight it out with Microsoft playing catchup, etc.
The world is not what it was or I just watch/read too much news/current events. hehe! Just sayin'.

TV Shows
The following are some shows I watch and one or a few that I don't. Just a random blog...
1. Masterchef US - Chef Joe is fierce. I'd be so stressed out working with someone like that I think. Gordon Ramsay ends up looking like an angel next to him. However, he's like a super strict teacher but at least you improve with a mentor like that. This is also one of my favorite shows.
2. Game of Thrones - "Winter is coming". Teehee! My favorite. Enough said. Currently reading the books on this too.
3. The Good Wife - always interesting
4. Harry's Law - interesting and funny, well-written
5. The Big Bang Theory - alllways funny, hehe!
6. New Adventures of Old Christine - Julia Louis Dreyfuss is a great comedienne and watching this show is a stress relief too. haha.
7. House Hunters & House Hunters International - on the HGTV network. I like it 'cause I'm curious to see how homes are in other countries, the design, the destination. The ones they've featured, in France (Paris) and Italy (Florence) I liked those apartments, particularly the one owned by an artist in Florence. Nice! They were quite amazing and full of character and identity, plus good use of space. The design and personal touches the current owners (not the ones seeking to buy) have there, wow.

Jasmine Tea

That's a cup of loose leaf jasmine tea. I always have one after dinner.
Testing my Instagram app on Android. It has a bug w/ uploading to 3rd party sites like twitter or tumblr. Forget about Facebook.
So I just hit upload and it posted to my instagram account and that allowed a sharing function to here - my Blogger account.
All this executed via my android phone.

Good Weekend
Busy Saturday spent running errands. Got a tablet too. Free. Capped off the day as a dinner guest in a country home. Had fresh oysters as appetizers and dungeness crabs for dinner with salad, rice, and white Zinfandel. Got so stuffed by the end. That was pretty good.
Saw a robin in the process at the back porch too. First time to see one. Didn't think it would be big but it was. Hehe.

Let It Snow. Let It Snow. Let It Snow...Not!
December was a rather dry winter where am at. It snowed only once, overnight, and was gone the next day. But this month of January, winter has indeed come.
It had started snowing one night last week. Since it's my first time overseas during winter in a place not normally known to snow everyday, the sight was quite a surprise to witness in the late evening. The scene and sky was sort of red, with flakes falling fast. It didn't look like my usual evening.
I took a video from the den/balcony of the snow falling that evening. Hehe!
So it snowed in the past 2 days or so. Today is no exception, it snowed in earnest today.

a closer look at a tree branch near me
using auto white balance, scene turned bluish green

Putting Things in Perspective
Just putting things in perspective....some words from Bill Gates to members of the Harvard community:
"I hope you will reflect on what you’ve done with your talent and energy. I hope you will judge yourselves not on your professional accomplishments alone, but also on how well you work to address the world’s deepest inequities, on how well you treat people a world away who have nothing in common with you but their humanity."
I might add: ....and not just how well you treat people a world away, but also within your immediate environment. Hehe!
Referenced from a Businesweek article online about 'idolizing' Bill Gates instead of Steve Jobs, a good read: http://www.businessweek.com/management/idolize-bill-gates-not-steve-jobs-11012011.html

It's Summer in the Islands
and my pet is trying to beat the heat! Lol!
caught sleeping at a shaded corner of
the garden, behind a huge palm plant
I didn't realize just how cool the area was until my pet woke up, trotted up to me, and I stroked the fur on the side where he laid on the soil. Felt cool on my palm indeed! It's like he's just been to a room with air from the air conditioner vents pointed at him the whole time. lol! No wonder he stays in that area. hehehe!
